The status quo

Where the written process and the ramp diverge, the TAT is lost

Most turnaround processes are modelled in a room and never checked against the aircraft.

Half the delay starts at the last stand

Reactionary delay — the knock-on from an already-late aircraft — is 46% of all delay minutes in Europe. Fix the turn and you fix the largest single cause.

The process on file was never timed

It describes a turn nobody has measured. Until someone stands on the stand with a clock, every figure in it is an assumption.

Seventy-plus activities, almost none tracked

70+ activities across ramp, hold, cabin, cockpit and terminal. Off-blocks is recorded. Almost nothing in between is.

The critical path is assumed

Plans plot a tidy finish-to-start chain. On a real reference process, 17% of prerequisites are not — enough to make the plan contradict itself.

The manning chart says who should be on each step. Not where a team idles, or which position gates the whole turn.

On-blocks, doors open, doors closed, off-blocks, airborne. Every observation is exported relative to confirmed off-blocks.

Works with no signal at all

Recording never needs a connection. A lost turn cannot be re-recorded — the aircraft has gone.

Corroborated, not guessed

Every sighting is kept and attributed. The canonical instant is confirmed at review, not resolved by a machine.

What the process misses is a finding

An activity an observer has to add is not an escape hatch. It is one of the study’s primary outputs.

Every phone on station time

Each device’s clock offset is measured when it joins a turn and corrected on export, so two observers’ timings compare exactly.
